I am a parasitologist, working to eliminate a human parasitic blood worm infecting over 200 million people worldwide with the majority of infections occurring in sub-Saharan Africa. This chonic & debilitating disease is called schistosomiasis or bilharzia and is a Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs). I have done fieldwork-based research in numerous countries in Africa and I currently work for an NGO called the Global Schistosomiasis Alliance. I am DBS-checked and a STEM ambassador.
I have participated in various public engagement events at the Natural history Museum such as ‘Nature Live’ a “meet the scientist” public activity with a Q&A format. I have also participated/performed in various public engagement activities such as Science Show Off, Museum Show Off, Science Uncovered European Researchers Night, ‘Women of the World’ festival, Problemattic, International Day of the Girl event at the Southbank Centre etc. I also visit schools for career fairs and biology.
