Dr Leah-Nani Alconcel worked as a spacecraft engineer in the Physics department at Imperial College London for over 12 years. While there, she got to drive the Cassini spacecraft around Saturn. She now lectures on the Aerospace Engineering course at the University of Birmingham, bringing the "space" into "aerospace". She enjoys public outreach, is passionate about widening participation and inclusivity, & is an experienced speaker.
I lecture on space systems engineering, mission analysis, and spacecraft design at the University of Birmingham. I speak regularly about engineering at admissions and outreach events in Birmingham, and in schools to students ranging from Year 4 to A-level. I've helped design stands and volunteered at the Royal Society's Summer Science exhibition. I'm also happy to talk about careers in STEM and being a woman in a STEM field.
