Stop and search is a controversial power. One persistent controversy concerns the disproportionate number of young men from Black and minority ethnic groups who are stopped and searched, and the impact this has on public trust, police legitimacy and how this impacts individuals themselves and those who share the group identity. This session will introduce cognitive bias, why it occurs, and how and why this particular type of thinking affects the decisions and judgements that we all make.
