Builder of the world's first liquid mirror telescope observatory, Brad moved into the astronomy of galaxies, with an interest in how the chemical elements we are built from are spread around the Milky Way by exploding stars. His work in determining the expansion rate of the Universe led to the Gruber Prize in Cosmology. In defining the Galactic Habitable Zone for alien life his work was named a top 10 news story of the year by National Geographic. Current Director of Hull's E.A. Milne Centre.
One of the UK's leaders in public outreach, Brad was named the John Porter and Leon Davies Lecturer by the IOP and ASG, respectively. He has delivered talks at the Cheltenham Science and British Science Festivals. Brad gives 100 talks per year around the country, from nursery schools to the University of the 3rd Age, with all stops in between.
