Bright Club Manchester is the comedy club where researchers, from all fields and backgrounds, take to the stage to perform short stand-up comedy routines about their work. Why? Because it’s fun, interesting, and genuinely useful. Comedy and research have a lot in common. Most of our performers have no experience of doing stand-up comedy, or haven’t even considered it before, but that does not matter. I have a background in psychology and neuroscience however my PhD brought me into the field of nutrition and health. I currently work at the British Medical Journal as an Evidence Reviewer, systematically assessing current medical research. I've presented my research at international conferences and invited seminars but have also been involved in Science Communication events. I am a Sunday Assembly Reading organiser and looking for fellow Scientists to give talks at our events.
I help organize SciBar and SciScreen events for the Cambridge branch of BSA (British Science Association). SciBar is an informal free talk in a pub, given by postdocs or scientists and engineers from the industry. SciScreen is a series of science films shown at the Arts Picturehouse with an introductory talk given by a scientist to discuss his or her field of research and how it is relevant to the film. Both are open to all, and very enjoyable and educational events.
I did a BSc in Biochemistry and an MRes in Structural Molecular Biology at Imperial College London then came to Cambridge for my PhD. I recently completed my PhD in Ingo Greger's group at the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology and am continuing to work there as a postdoc. I have been volunteering with the Cambridgeshire branch of the British Science Association for the last few years and currently have the role of publicity secretary.
Hi, I am a teacher at a local school in the DA8 area. I am looking for speakers (either paid or unpaid) to come into our primary school and talk to children about science.
