A new polar research ship, The RRS Sir David Attenborough, is part of a multi-million pound modernisation programme, which is set to transform how the UK both enables and supports frontier science in Antarctica. With a state-of-the art wharf this modernisation programme represents the largest Government investment in polar science infrastructure since the 1980s. STUDENTS can attend this event for free.

Captain Tim Stockings read Engineering at Imperial College, London before joining the Royal Navy to fly helicopters. As Operations Director for the Cambridge-based British Antartic Survey he is responsible for ships, aircraft, field stations, engineering

Captain Tim Stockings, will talk how excellence in engineering is critical for ensuring that Britain remains at the forefront of climate, biodiversity and ocean research in the Polar regions.
